Friday night is party time in Taupo. At 4:00 a.m. the revelers choose our fence to hang out on, waking up everyone who is camping on the other side. It’s impossible not to follow the drunken conversation of the young couple who sound like they are inside the tent with us. Although the issue is simple – he wants her to come home with him, she wants him to get lost – it takes forever for him to get the message. [Read more…]

Worries about climbing the steep hill kept Christof from sleeping. Our bikes are too heavy to push uphill, and although we’ve never yet encountered one we couldn’t manage, the steep ones usually snake back and forth at a manageable gradient.
