Off early again, after taking leave of Jim. We stopped for breakfast with our heads full of last night’s conversation. After reading what what the maps said about the upcoming portion of the tour – many miles on highways without shoulders – we agreed to take Jim’s advice and rent a car at Wilmington Airport. On the pleasantly empty back roads we were astonished by the wealth of butterflies in the ditches along the way.

Up early and off by 8:30 crossing another three-mile bridge, where people of all ages sat companionably with their legs dangling off the edge of it, fishing in the early morning sunshine.
