We are at a little place called Coyote Flats. Shortly before getting here, Christof discovered a piece of wire in his tire. I’m sitting in a diner listening to a group of men chatting in the next booth, while he is outside changing his tire. Although no one ever wants a flat, this isn’t the worst place to have one. We take a rest day, mainly because I think we need an occasional break from the constant flood of new impressions. We drive back to Phoenix and spend two hours at Apple, hoping that we’ve finally solved the difficulties with my iPad. Driving out of town and checking into a hotel conveniently located next to a mall we can reach by foot, before bringing back the rental car. [Read more…]

The Grand Canyon

It’s a two hour ride to the Grand Canyon on this cool, clear Sunday morning. Through golden glades of birches and lush green pine trees scattered across a high plateau surrounded by snow covered mountains. Our eyes hungrily drink in the colors and luxuriant vegetation, rejoicing in the contrast of abundant, exuberant life after days of the dry arid desert. The Grand Canyon is so spectacular and breath taking, that the word ‘grand’ is too meager to capture our experience. Aunt Annemarie and Uncle Joe are up early to make us breakfast. After breakfast we say our goodbyes and drive to Sedona.
A ranger at the Coconino National Forest visitors’ center, tells us of the local saying:
